ST-09 // SEC-05 First Release Story ยท Core Survival Loop ยท 4 Narrative Endings
The Last Light
A focused, high-tension acoustic horror experience told through the shelter architecture, 30A circuit management, shortwave radio frequencies, and sculpted pine valley.
What Happens
You arrive for a night caretaker shift at an isolated shelter deep in the pines. Soon after dusk, a storm triggers a mudslide across the mountain road, leaving the locked front trail gate as the only route out. Power fails across the property, and the woods grow cold.
Pinned to the porch post, a handwritten warning from the previous caretaker, June Vale, leaves one vital rule:
โKeep the porch light on. If someone calls your name from the trees, donโt answer.โ [UV: ๐ป TUNE 142.8 BEFORE DAWN ยท ENTITY DETECTED AT 20 STUDS]
Inside the house, Juneโs 6 hidden cassette logs, Polaroids, and the shelter guestbook reveal that hikers have vanished along the ravine trailโand the voices calling from the treeline are mimicked echoes. By balancing the cabinโs 30A fuse box, cranking the shed generator, and tuning the cellar shortwave radio to 142.8 MHz, you can lock The Visitor in a listening trance long enough to sprint for the dawn gate.
4 Playable Narrative Endings
Ending 1: The Broken Circuit (Foyer Fuse Rupture): Overloading the cabin fuse box beyond 30A ruptures the ceramic fuse. Total darkness extinguishes the 24-stud amber safe zone as The Visitor breaches the front timber steps.
Ending 2: The Washed Bridge (Ravine Chasm Collapse): Panicking and fleeing toward the culvert road traps the player on a narrow rock shelf when the suspension bridge snaps into the roaring whitewater rapids.
Ending 3: June's Echo (Subterranean Mimic Lure): Stepping outside the amber perimeter to follow June Vale's mimicked cries into the cellar leads directly into the creature's acoustic trap.
Ending 4: The Sunrise Beacon (True Dawn Rescue Climax): Transmitting on 142.8 MHz from the cellar radio to induce an acoustic listening trance, then sprinting to the Watchtower bluff to fire the magnesium flare triggers 06:00 AM dawn rescue.
Every shift concludes with a Polaroid Shift Report Card grading stealth, power uptime, and clues discovered.

CARETAKER: Marcus Reed (Badge #312) | RELIEF: Harold Finch
STATION: Lookout Cabin 09 | WEEK OF: Oct 18 - Oct 24, 1984
OCT 18 โ 07:30: Diesel generator topped to 40 gallons. 30A fuse seated normal. Freezing fog descending over Blackwood Ridge. No radio traffic on regional band.
OCT 19 โ 19:45: Checked waterwell winch. Found severed elk antler near rope bridge. Heavy pine wind. Porch incandescent bulb flickering at 60Hz. Ground rod secure.
OCT 20 โ 23:14: Radio scanner intercepted repeating voice carrier on 142.85 MHz. Sounded like Ranger June Vale asking to be let inside the cellar. BUT JUNE TOOK THE HIGHWAY TRUCK TO PORTLAND ON TUESDAY. Dispatched query โ no reply, only low 38Hz mechanical rumble.
OCT 22 โ 02:45: Perimeter tripwire B-4 snapped 40 yards out. Clean break, 9 feet above ground level! Went out with brass lantern. Found two deep oval depressions pressed into wet moss. Whatever made them weighs at least 600 lbs.
OCT 23 โ 21:10: The voice came back. It wasn't on the radio this time. It was standing just outside the floodlight safe circle by the timber flume. Calling my name with June's exact cadence. But it didn't breathe between words. No pauses. Like a recording.
OCT 24 โ 03:55 [FINAL ENTRY]: IT'S ON THE PORCH. THE 30A FUSE BLEW WHEN I KICKED ON THE TOWER SEARCHLIGHT. The cabin is dark. It's whispering outside the storm door. It's tapping on the glass with long bone fingers. It's not June. God, it never was June. I'm locking the storm cellar from inside. IF YOU FIND THIS LOG: DO NOT TRUST ANY VOICE IN THE PINES. [UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE โ FOREST SERVICE]
TO: ALL DISTRICT 9 OUTPOST CARETAKERS & FIELD SUPERVISORS
FROM: ARTHUR J. VANCE, CHIEF ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, REGION 6
DATE: AUGUST 14, 1984
SUBJECT: MANDATORY 30-AMPERE CEILING ON STATION 09 SUBSTATION CIRCUIT
1. EMERGENCY DIRECTIVE OVERVIEW:
Recent inspection reports from Station 09 (Blackwood Ridge) have revealed hazardous practices involving the substation fuse cutout box. Personnel have reportedly inserted copper pennies, wire slugs, and unrated 60-ampere industrial links into the fuse holder following nuisance trips during electrical storms.
THIS PRACTICE IS CATEGORICALLY FORBIDDEN UNDER FEDERAL CODE 36 CFR 261. VIOLATORS ARE SUBJECT TO IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL AND CIVIL LIABILITY.
2. TECHNICAL CIRCUIT SPECIFICATIONS:
The pole-mounted secondary transformer at Station 09 is rated for a continuous maximum current of exactly 30.0 AMPERES (240V AC / 7.2 kVA). Current engineering loads are allocated as follows:
โข Perimeter Safe-Haven Floodlights (4x 500W Tungsten): 8.33 Amperes
โข Interior Cabin Circuits & Communications Rack: 5.20 Amperes
โข Waterwell Sump & Submerged Drainage Pump: 9.40 Amperes
โข Emergency Shortwave High-Power Radio Transmitter: 12.10 Amperes
TOTAL COMBINED LOAD WITH TRANSMITTER ACTIVE: 35.03 AMPERES
3. CRITICAL OVERLOAD BEHAVIOR:
Operating the high-power radio transmitter while the waterwell pump and perimeter floodlights are both engaged exceeds the circuit threshold by 5.03A. Under these conditions, the Bussman 30A ceramic fuse will blow in precisely 0.85 SECONDS.
If a non-calibrated slug is utilized instead of an approved 30A ceramic cartridge, the transformer secondary windings will suffer rapid insulation breakdown, igniting the cooling oil and causing IRREVERSIBLE SUBSTATION DESTRUCTION.
4. SPARE FUSE DEPOTS:
Approved replacement Bussman 30A ceramic fuses (Item #FS-30-PNW) are stationed exclusively at three secure interior locations: (A) The kitchen utility cabinet, (B) The underground generator bunker shelf, and (C) The sawmill sluice tool chest.

MISSING PERSON โ HAVE YOU SEEN THIS USFS RANGER?
NAME: Harold Douglas Finch | AGE: 52 Years Old | HEIGHT/WT: 6' 1" / 195 lbs
OCCUPATION: Senior Forestry Ranger (24 Years Service, Badge #408)
LAST SEEN: Timber Gulch Adit #4 | DATE MISSING: October 14, 1983
GEAR CARRIED: Orion 12GA Flare Gun, 30A Fuses, Brass Caretaker Lantern
DISAPPEARANCE CIRCUMSTANCES:
Ranger Harold Finch vanished while responding to an emergency report of structural flooding at the Timber Gulch Sluice Gate. His official USFS Dodge Power Wagon was discovered parked at the trailhead with the driver's door ajar, engine idling, and the CB radio microphone torn completely from the console.
Ground search teams recovered his damaged brass service lantern near the entrance to Adit #4. Footprints leading into the mine abruptly ended at the subterranean drainage pool. No sign of a body or struggle was found.
CRITICAL PUBLIC SAFETY WARNING:
Members of the search party have repeatedly reported hearing Ranger Finch's voice calling for assistance from deep within the unmapped pine thickets of Blackwood Ridge.
THE PUBLIC IS STRICTLY WARNED NOT TO PURSUE THESE CALLS.
Acoustic analysis indicates the voice is an unclassified non-human mimic reproducing distress signals to lure isolated searchers away from designated safety zones.
